What's New
June Newsletter
The June (Summer) issue of our monthly newsletter, Ethical Views, is now online. See the schedule of
book discussions and colloquies for June, July, and August. (A colloquy is a meditative, reflective event
on a theme.) These events in our air-conditioned meeting space begin at
10 AM, with coffee following. Also in this issue: President Howard Peer's final column as President, committee
reports from the Society's various roll-up-your-sleeves committees, and an announcement of a movie showing on
Mountaintop Mining in Appalachia. The newsletter is in two parts this month, click here
and here to download (Adobe
Acrobat required). The second part contains the committees' annual reports. Next Ethical Views: September.
General Meeting
Besides the usual required chores — electing new officers and making annual reports (shorter this year) — we’ll open
the floor to your questions and comments. Come and tell us how you’d like things to go next year.
Sunday, June 1, 11:00 AM.
Camp Linden Picnic
Hang out at beautiful Camp Linden for a relaxing day. One of the Society's
best events. Catch a ride to the bucolic Chester County location in front of the Society at 10:30 AM.
Or drive yourself, directions are here. Lots of Friends. Lots of Food.
Lots of Fun. Think of what you’d like to contribute: salad,
dessert, sliced tomatoes & onions for sandwiches etc. $5 for those who bring a dish; $10 for those who don’t. Sunday, June 8.
Mountaintop Mining
Mike McCoy of Appalachian Voices (see their website) presents a film
and discussion about destructive aspects of coal mining which constitute
an "environmental and human rights tragedy in Appalachia." Wednesday, June 4, 7:00 PM.
Workshop: An Ethical Humanist Religious Approach to Living
Led by ESHoP leader Richard Kiniry. Ethical Culture has
through the years been a Movement that emphasized concern for social, political and cultural issues. While
personal living has also been addressed through those years, this workshop will attempt to integrate the personal
and social into one's understanding of life. It will present one Leader’s understanding of an Ethical Humanist
religious world view and offer opportunities for participants to question and shape their own world view. Sunday,
July 20, 10:00 AM to noon.
